Cambridge, UK – April 3, 2018 - The Weightless SIG today announced the expansion of its board with the appointment (in January 2018) of Chinese LPWAN and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) specialist, Bridging Science. The company brings broad engineering experience and deep technical capability to the group with a complementary position to existing Weightless technology vendors.
Bridging Science CEO, Alex Li, explained that they selected Weightless technology over all other LPWAN alternatives because of its intrinsic superiority. “We carefully analysed every technology option over a period of two years. Our definitive conclusion is that Weightless, with its synchronized network protocol delivers huge improvements in spectrum efficiency in practical situations over other technologies, and the wide-ranging feature set gives it unprecedented flexibility”, adding, “For us there was no viable alternative to Weightless and we are delighted to be part of that global community”.
Bridging Science is eighty percent R&D focused bringing a diverse innovation skill set to bear on exciting IoT vertical applications. The core technology team brings together engineers from Alstom, Ericsson, Microsoft, Huawei, Siemens, GE, Itron and more.

Bridging Science enjoys strong cooperative relationships with key stakeholders in the Chinese AMI/Utility Critical IOT market including Tsinghua University, MIIT, Radio Regulators, partners, meters, IoT platform vendors and Gas/Water Utilities. The company will initially provide end-to-end AMI solutions using Weightless technology, specifically in gas and water metering markets, followed by other narrow band IoT use cases in Smart Lighting and Smart City environments. Existing Weightless hardware solutions from Bridging Science are at an advanced phase of development, and E2E IOT solution based on Weightless technology is planned to be commercial available by end of 2018.
