Weightless: A bespoke technology for the IoT

posted: Thursday 25th July 2013

Until now, many machines have been served using cellular technology such as GPRS. However, this is a poor fit in terms of functionality, cost and battery life and increasingly 2G systems are being decommissioned. With massive predicted growth in the IoT there is much benefit in a bespoke open standard designed specifically to optimally meet the need of machines. Any new wireless technology needs access to spectrum and the recent availability of TV white space has opened new possibilities for IoT system design. This paper discusses the design of a new standard called Weightless which is designed and optimised for this application.
